Are Save the Dates Really Necessary?

Save the Date vs. Invitation

Sending out two notifications about your wedding seems redundant but there is a difference between a save the date and the official wedding invitation. A save the date is normally sent out around a year to 6-months from your wedding date to give the bare minimum information which is the date (duh), sometimes the location if that’s already known, and shows the people who received it that they will be invited to the wedding. Like it was stated before, it’s a nice heads-up for your guests to start planning for the festivities. The wedding invitation is typically sent three months before the wedding and that has all of the information needed for your attendees- time of the wedding, exact location, attire requirements, and gift registration. Most importantly invitations are when you request RSVP’s. Think of save the dates as the appetizer to the main invitation course.
